Island Batik August 2019 {Star Light, Star Bright}

The products featured in this post were given to me by Island Batik and Hobbs, and this post contains affiliate links for Urban Elementz.

In August, many of the Island Batik Ambassadors showed off the amazing Spring 2019 fabric collections with the Beat the Heat Blog Hop! For those of us that didn't participate in the blog hop (we will ll be showcasing our Summer 2019 collections later), we were challenged to make a lap size of larger quilt using any star pattern. Last year I made a scrappy rainbow wonky star quilt for the Starstruck challenge. This year I decided to use my AccuQuilt GO! along with the 8 inch (finished) Half Square Triangle die (#55400) to create some BIG star blocks in a beautiful mix of Island Batik fabrics.

I started with some fabrics from an Island Batik fat quarter bundle and pulled in some other scraps I had that blended with the color scheme. (That's one of the things I love about Island Batik fabrics...so many of the collections work together!) I made improv fabrics slabs, cut them into half square triangles on my AccuQuilt GO! and paired it with the Island Batik gray neutral. I made a BIG version of my July Modern HST BOM which finished at a whopping 32 inches. By making just four blocks, you end up with a quick and easy quilt that is 64 inches square. In my opinion, that will be perfect for snuggling on the couch with my family!

I quilting it on my APQS Lucey using the Fantasy Flame pantograph from Urban Elementz and Hobbs Heirloom Natural Cotton Batting.

I usually don't make quilts this big, so I had a heck of a time getting pictures of it! I "stole" this photo taken during the Omaha Modern Quilt Guild October meeting show & tell. It's the best one I have that shows the overall star pattern.

Thanks for stopping by! Happy sewing!
