The products featured in this post were given to me by Island Batik.
Welcome to my stop on the Island Batik Ambassadors Getaway Blog Hop! We're on day 2 of our travels, and I'm so happy you're making a stop at my blog. As Island Batik Ambassadors, we get two huge boxes filled with gorgeous Island Batik fabrics, Hobbs batting, and Aurifil thread. There's always a package of beautifully-wrapped fabric marked "SURPRISE!" that is *not* to be revealed until the specified release date. (And it's always sooo hard to keep a secret when pretty fabric is involved!) I was absolutely thrilled when I opened my package to find the "Ditty" fabric line.
One of my favorite things to do with pretty, coordinating fabrics is to cut it up using my AccuQuilt Go! and randomly sew the pieces back together. I decided to sew some curves and used the AccuQuilt Drunkards Path die (#55740, dies 11 & 12) from the Go! Qube Mix & Match 12" Companion Set. I cut 42 pieces each of the inner and outer curves and was able to quickly cut the pieces needed for a baby quilt.
When sewing my blocks together, I randomly paired up fabrics. I decided not to assemble my blocks into a traditional Drunkard's Path but instead oriented each 6-inch block the same way.
This quick and easy quilt is a perfect little baby quilt. It measures 36" x 42". (I sometimes wonder if this is too small for a baby quilt since kiddos grow so fast, but I think it's the perfect size for dragging around for many years.)
I quilted this on my AQPS Lucey using the Gatsby pantograph from Urban Elementz. I quilted it so the curves in the panto went the opposite direction from the curves in the pieceing, and I think it adds some interest to the quilt.
The backing is Island Batik Batter, and I used my AccuQuilt Go! to cut 2.5 inch binding strips for a scrappy binding.
This happy little quilt is a baby gift for a former pharmacy student of mine. She just had a baby girl in December, and I'm sure it will be well-loved.
This is only day 2 of the Island Batik Getaway Blog Hop, and there's a full itinerary on the Island Batik website! Be sure to check out all the Island Batik Ambassador blog posts for great giveaways. Island Batik is also giving away a rainbow of 20 fat quarters of Island Batik Basics.
To celebrate our Island Batik Getaway, I'm giving away a 5-inch charm pack (42 squares) of the Ditty fabric line cut with my AccuQuilt Go! To enter, just leave a comment below telling me your favorite go-to baby quilt pattern (if you have a link to a pattern, even better!) or what you would make with the Ditty charm pack. If you are a no-reply blogger, please leave an email address so I can contact you if you win.
EDITED TO ADD: My giveaway will remain open through Sunday, February 3 and I will select *two* random winners to each receive a Ditty charm pack. The two random winners will be contacted by Tuesday, February 5.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt! I rarely use a pattern for baby quilts...just picture something in my head that fits the child/family and go with it. The final quilt is always a surprise and I haven't been disappointed yet.
ReplyDeleteWhat a burst of fun color. Love your panto too!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt and collection!
ReplyDeleteWhat a darling baby quilt! I’m sure it will be well loved! I think the Island Batik fabric is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteLove these colors! I always love a simple patch quilt with white or a solid for a baby quilt.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite baby quilt has pinwheels, chevron, or square-in-a-square blocks in the colors of the Mom's choice.
ReplyDeleteI love this line and what a great baby quilt. I've made 3 small quilts using Maple Island Quilt's BQ3 pattern which I enjoy so much. You can see them on my completed quilts page on my blog in 2017 & 2016: https://dawnyk.blogspot.com/p/completed-quilts.html
ReplyDeleteNow, what would I make with the charm pack? Gotta think hard about that one. Those are really my colors and I'd love to make a simple lap quilt with pockets for myself.
Your quilt is so pretty - looks like sherbet :)
ReplyDeleteNo actual pattern, just random HSTs. Works up quickly with the GO!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is gorgeous. I know my great nieces and nephews use these when they get older as lap quilts. The oldest is now 13, so they will be loved for a long time to come. I started using Patch Pals Animals and I love piecing them and the kids love them also. quilting dash lady at comcast dot net
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Your pattern is perfect for the fabric.
ReplyDeleteLove your quilt. I like to use simple pinwheel or star designs for baby quilts.

One thing I love to do for a baby quilt is to paper piece a cute feature block -- often something related to the nursery decor or a cute little animal -- and then surround the block with scrappy blocks that are easy to piece. Disappearing nine patch for instance. Making baby quilts is always such fun!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt and gorgeous fabrics!
ReplyDeleteI've never made a baby quilt. I sure would love to play with these lovely fabrics.
ReplyDeleteThat makes a lovely baby quilt! I really love that you chose to quilt it with the curves going the opposite way. I agree that it adds a lot of interest :) My favourite baby quilt to make is my Frienship Galaxy quilt: https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/254705440/friendship-galaxy-pdf-quilt-pattern?ref=listings_manager_grid (but don't enter me in the giveaway since I'm also an ambassador!)
ReplyDeleteI like to use cute panels for the kids.
ReplyDeleteA panel with pinwheels around it.
ReplyDeleteAnything with stars and personalize it with their name!

This quilt looks great
ReplyDeleteand easy? I'd like to

Wonderful quilt! This getaway already has some amazing quilts - yours numbering among them. I love how simple and favorite old patterns look so new and different in batiks.
ReplyDeleteI love a disappearing nine patch fast easy and it looks like you spent a lot of time. .... happyness04431@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI would do a snowball or a nine-patch.
ReplyDeletebarbkaup(at)(yahoo)(dot)(com)
Beautiful quilt & fabrics. I have made several baby quilts with all different styles. I like to try out the patterns so would be game to try out dunkards path w charm squares. Dwbuckie@icloud.com
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful... I would like to make a baby quilt... thank you so much for the chance!!!! Aggelikixatzivatiti@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteHi Steph! Oh, I think the quilting pattern you chose for this delightful baby quilt is just perfect. My most often go-to baby quilt pattern is just a nine-patch (2" strips) with a charm pack piece in the opposite block. It goes together so quickly, and I always make one extra nine-patch block for a multi-colored quilt when I get enough. Happy Tuesday. ~smile~ Roseanne
ReplyDeleteWonderful quilt love the quilting I always like something different. I like to do strips and the cut them up and resew them.
ReplyDeleteI love the Drunkard's path die, worked up into a really wonderful quilt....as always, love those fabrics!
ReplyDeleteI love the Drunkard's path die, worked up into a really wonderful quilt....as always, love those fabrics!
ReplyDeleteLovely! And the quilting is perfect for those blocks!
ReplyDeleteMy go to baby quilt pattern is jungle lattice by craft buds. I love your quilt!
ReplyDeleteI'm still new enough at quilting that I don't have a go-to yet. I'd rather try everything new before going back to repeat something. I'm in the middle of a baby quilt right now though, using one of the Giant Block tutorials on Kitchen Table Quilting.
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt! I'm going to have to do some serious research on these AccuQuilt Dies.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite baby quilt pattern, hands down, is the Babyhood quilt from Barb Persing. https://barbarapersing.com/products/babyhood
Beautiful baby quilt, sorry no ideas for a baby quilt - just keep it simple. I would use these squares with other batiks to make a queen size quilt. 24Tangent@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteLovely quilt and interesting quilting!!! My favourite babe quilt is Amy Schimler's 'Animal Party Too'! marykorinthos@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteI don't really have a go to baby quilt pattern. I just designed a triple friendship star baby quilt that I am anxious to make. I love your quilt.
ReplyDeleteIf I'm in a rush I usually choose a disappearing 9 patch for a baby quilt
ReplyDeletemy go to for a baby quilt is usually an applique with a theme of something the parents like...puppies, flowers, trucks etc.
ReplyDeleteI still go to Yellow Brick Road. Such happy fabrics!
ReplyDeleteI like to choose something with stars in it - but then I think about my die cutter too and think I really have to use it more so would need to look at them and decide from there - wonderful fabric
ReplyDeleteBeautiful fabric. Don't know what to make with it, but I know I'd love it.
ReplyDeletelove the yummy colors! My favorite baby quilt pattern has been one in my head, and I am not sure I can explain it here. It is made with 5" strips which are sewn in a staggered manner. Then they are recut going across in 5" strips. Those strips are shifted and resewn making a quilt 45" x 45". These fabrics are great in a baby quilt. Nancy A: rangerer@sbcglobal.net
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty and colorful quilt. Great block for it, to feature the colors and chops.
ReplyDeleteSuch a sweet baby quilt you made! Thanks for sharing. Warm wishes, a quilt that was in Quiltmaker magazine a long time ago, is my favorite go-to quilt for any occation: https://www.quiltingcompany.com/Quilt/pattern-warm-wishes-bed-size/
ReplyDeleteI would use the charm pack to make some disappearing nine patch blocks.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colors! My favorite go-to quilt pattern is a simple four patch.
ReplyDeleteI would pair each of the charm squares with a light batik neutral to form half-square triangle blocks and put those blocks together for a baby quilt.
ReplyDeleteAs a beginner quilter, I really haven't attempted or decided on a go-to baby quilt! Thank you, Susan
ReplyDeleteI am just getting to the age where my friends are having babies, so I have not made a lot yet. I have seen lots of adorable baby quilt patterns using charm packs, though, so would definitely be able to find a great pattern!
ReplyDeleteI have done a four patch simple quilt for a baby, I have not had to make many baby quilts! tks!
ReplyDeleteI love using now the blocks for baby quilts!
ReplyDeleteSandy A
I usually sew charm packs together and put a border on it.
ReplyDeleteI love to make table runners with charms.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite go-to baby quilt pattern is Rail Fence. A close second is Double 4-Patch. Which one I use depends on my whim that day and what fabrics I have available. -- soparkaveataoldotcom
ReplyDeleteI just bought my Go cutter so I don't have a favourite yet.Just excited to begin learning
ReplyDeleteI usually just grab a stack of 50 5 in squares, sew them on point with sashing. Works great.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is beautiful! I love the combination of the colors and prints and the quilting design. I like to use a disappearing nine patch pattern for baby quilts. Thanks for sharing your work, and thanks for the chance to win some of this beautiful fabric!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is gorgeous! I have done a disappearing nine patch most often for baby quilts.
ReplyDeleteYour Quilt is Beautiful!! Thank you for chance to win your give-a-way...the fabrics are soooo pretty & I would make a simple 1/2 square triangles quilt.. using a plain coordinating batik color fabic to make them stretch into a nice quilt for the baby to use for along time :)
ReplyDeletePretty quilt! I would make a simple patchwork table topper.
ReplyDeleteI haven't made a baby quilt in a long time. I would use the charms for a couple of pillow covers.
ReplyDeleteLove your Drunkards Path Quilt in the Ditty fabric line! My favourite baby quilt is the Churn Dash with fussy cut centres, or a snuggly flannel raggedy quilt. I am working on a baby quilt now for my 3rd great grandchild, but am cutting up a panel from a line called “Frolic Friends” and am going with a more modern design that I just finished designing, Maybe a new favourite? We will see!

Your Drunkards Path Quilt is lovely. It looks so soft and cuddly. I think a rail fence is one of the easiest patters to do.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is lovely! I haven't made a baby quilt in a long time. Actually, I'd make a quilt with the hunter's star pattern. Missouri Star Quilt Co has a great you tube video that is quite helpful.

Ditty, the name suggests to me a little song, so would leave the fabrics in their original size squares, but have one lovely fabric cut into lengths for sashing and borders. This is such fun to travel with all the ambassadors and see all the selections and what you have all made.
ReplyDeleteI like to make a Disappearing 9 Patch for baby quilts. (Sorry, no link, but you can check out Jenny Doan's website for starters.) This pattern works well with pretty much any fabric and is a quick classic.
ReplyDeletemy favorite baby quilt is straight 5" squares sewn together with some type of applique on top.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful baby quilt! The recipient will surely love it. My favorite baby quilt to make is a flannel rag quilt. Quick and easy. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAwesome quilt! So pretty!! I like all baby quilt patterns! Enjoy your day!! angielovesgary2 atgmail dotcom
ReplyDeleteThese colors are perfect for a baby quilt! I don’t really have a go-to pattern yet but my favorite way to quilt a baby quilt is with a continuous spiral
ReplyDeleteThose fabrics would make a great table runner. That turned out beautifully and I think it is a great size for babies. Those fabrics are gorgeous.
ReplyDeletethe colours are so soft ,soothing I think. I find baby quilts are a great opportunity to take two traditional blocks and use them in a quilt. Sometimes varying the block a bit, eg. a 9patch variation with a snowball, or a 16 patch with a square in a square. I I was using a charm pack of Ditty, I think I would create a flower garden.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite baby patterns for quilts is from Jedi Craft Girl. Such easy and quick to make! http://www.jedicraftgirl.com/2015/03/nautical-mini-quilt-pattern-giveaway.html
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful!!! I really do not have a favorite baby quilt pattern....so many to choose from!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for Island Batik hopping. Your baby quilt is so pretty and I like how you reversed the curves in your quilting pattern. I am not a quilter...yet, however I do love to sew and would probably create a tote bag from the Ditty charm pack. 2019 Blessings...
ReplyDeleteYour baby quilt is lovely. Sew soft & comfy looking. When I thought back to all the baby quilts I've made, I realized they have all been appliqued with animal themes or an animal featured panel that I spruce up with borders. I always back them with flannel or minky!
ReplyDeleteThe way you arranged the colours is delightful and so very appealing. Great fabric! Not easy to choose which quilt pattern I would use them with. Most likely one of my own designs. - Just love this blog hop and seeing all the creativity!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful quilt. And you gave me an idea with that scrappy binding. Thanks a lot.
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful gift for the new mom/baby. I think the size is fine. Mostly, they are used when they are tiny, and as changing pads, and then to be dragged around as blankies, so more than that is probably too much! Such luscious batik colors! Thank you for the chance to win the squares. If I were to win them, I'd put them with other batiks I had and pick a design from one of the Nickle Quilt books that I haven't done yet.
ReplyDeleteI use any and all patterns for baby quilts. Each one is different!
ReplyDeleteI don't use just one pattern for baby quilts. I keep my open for patterns in quilting magazines and on allpeoplequilt.com. I have made about 7 so far!
ReplyDeleteThis is so cute fabric!
Since baby quilts are a thing of the past (at least for a few more years), I need to talk about what to make with the charms. I'd probably make HST's using dark solids to let the Ditty colors really pop. From there...table toppers, pillow slips, etc.
ReplyDeleteI don't make too many baby quilts anymore, but would definitely use the charms to make some sort of quilt. Not sure what pattern though.
ReplyDeleteI love making baby quilts, sometimes starting with a panel and adding to it.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is adorable! I LOVE those fabrics! One of my favorite patterns for a baby quilt is the Kissing Fish pattern by Lee Heinrich at Freshly Pieced. Unfortunately, the pattern was on Craftsy and has been deleted by them in their conversion to BluPrint.
ReplyDeleteLove that fabric. I don't think I have a favorite baby quilt pattern. I do like doing applique on baby quilts.
ReplyDeleteI love the colours in your quilt - so soft yet rich. I love eye spy quilts for babies and toddler. Thanks for the opportunity to win your draw.
ReplyDeleteLove your choice of colours. My favorite baby quilt is a bunny pattern.
ReplyDeleteThis has just become my FAVORITE baby quilt! I'd use my charm pack on my upcoming March retreat to make a mini of the same pattern. Thank you for sharing the details on the quilting. I'd use the panto to transfer the quilt pattern to the mini for my domestic machine and free motion it. I adore the great spring colors. Great break from the winter doldrums!
ReplyDeleteHi my email address is 0759daisy@gmail.com. And I love the color's in your quilt. If I won I would make a lap quilt because I use them all year long my body temperature is not regulated very good lol. The pattern I would use is Over the Hills.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is lovely, I like how you have all the blocks going the same way. I have made several "I spy" quilts using 5" novelty blocks alternating with solid 5" blocks. Sometimes I use the colors of the rainbow for my solid blocks. I might try your idea some time.
ReplyDeleteI have a large pixelated heart quilt (the heart is large, the quilt is baby sized) that I recently purchased. It would look great with a bright fuchsia heart and the Ditty Bag batiks in the background. Your quilt looks nice, sort of like fans. ljbisme at msn dot com
ReplyDeletequilt and fabric go together well
ReplyDeleteA very sweet quilt. I kit a lot of kids quilts for our guild community service & stuck mostly to variations of squares & strips as many don't want to sew curves. So the charm pack would work well! pjrquilter at msn dot com
ReplyDeleteThe fabrics you used look so soft. The curved pattern reminds me of a patchwork of many colors. Charm packs are great to keep me from purchasing the same favorite color repeatedly. Lots of new color combinations. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beauty you've created! I enjoy making a Rail Fence quilt for babies. I think the Ditty sqaures would work well in a this pattern!
ReplyDeleteLove the fabrics- so happy and fresh! My design is simple- Row A is squares of each print with white sashing; Row B would be white sashing with smaller squares (quarter sized?); alternate Rows A and B. I'd love to make this! Thanks for sharing your block design!
ReplyDeleteHaving a small quilt to drag around is alway good, especially when you are small enough to play cubbies. Love these colours, so soft and sweet. And a great quilt to show them off.
ReplyDeleteYour baby quilt is beautiful and just the right size. Many quilters have been making bigger and bigger baby quilts but I prefer to stick with a smaller version for gifts. Like you said, the baby can drag it around as they grow. If I like you enough to make your new baby a quilt then I'll make a new larger one when needed.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I've been having fun with The Road Trip Quilt from Cluck Cluck sew. https://bit.ly/2sF8CAo
Deletehmmm....can't say that i have a go-to baby quilt pattern. I have this thing...I don't like to make the same quilt twice. (although I have don't that once) There are so many quilt patterns out there. I want to make something different each time I make a quilt. It's challenging and exciting. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful quilt. So pretty in the snow!
ReplyDeleteA log cabin or stars!!! Thank you!!
ReplyDeletekcummings71@gmail.com
Your quilt is wonderful. My go to baby quilt was designed by a friend, she calls it Merry go round. Super easy squares and rectangles. Sorry no link.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love these fabrics! The pattern showcases them well. Nicely done.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is so pretty!!!thank you for the chance to be a winner of your gift!!
ReplyDeleteQuilt is beautiful! No babies in our family. Maybe a lap quilt instead.
ReplyDeleteSo happy to be one
ReplyDeleteof your winners! I
will love using your
charm pack. Thank you
for the giveaway.
